Planning to stay in the Netherlands for more than four months? Then you have to register with the municipality in person, as soon as you arrive.
This first registration (‘eerste vestiging’) is needed so you can get a Citizen Service Number (Burger Service Nummer, or BSN), which is mandatory for all residents of the Netherlands.
If you are a highly skilled migrant (or a family member), scientific researchers, Intra Corporate Transferees(ICT) or an orientation year student, you can make an appointment with the experts at the Rotterdam Expat Centre. They will help you with everything you need for your first registration with their ‘one-stop-shop’ concept. You will also meet representatives from the municipality and the IND (Immigration and Naturalization Service) in one combined appointment. You will get your BSN, collect your residence permit and provide your biometric information in one place.
Things you will need to bring along in order to register:
1. Passport or national ID card (EU)
2. Completed print-out of the application form
3. Proof of residence / tenancy agreement / signed statement by main occupant
4. Residence permit (if applicable)
5. Birth/marriage certificate
6. Housing permit (if applicable)
If you need more information, please check our webpage about long term municipal registration.
